The skills stay when we leave, so the next response starts faster and closer to home.

In our partners' words

Local organisations lead our responses, so we asked them what working with us is actually like.

  • Vitaria released funds the day the river broke its banks. We were on boats with water and rice before most agencies had finished their first meeting.

  • They didn't just fix our pumps. They trained our mechanics and left the committee in charge. Three years on, the water still runs.

  • The new school was built by masons from our own villages. The children walk past it and know their fathers made it safe.

  • We chose the boats and the engines ourselves. That respect is why the whole cooperative was fishing again in nine months.

Questions people ask us

The ones we hear most, with straight answers.

How quickly does Vitaria respond to a disaster?

Our emergency reserve lets us release funds within 24 hours of a verified alert. In 2025 the median time from alert to first distribution was 68 hours.

Can I choose where my donation goes?

Yes. You can give to a specific emergency or where it's needed most. If an emergency becomes fully funded, we'll use your gift for the next most urgent one and tell you where it went.

How much of my donation reaches the field?

In 2025, 86 cents of every dollar went to emergency and recovery programmes. Our audited accounts are published every year.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

In most countries where we're registered, yes. You'll get a tax receipt by email as soon as your gift is processed.

Do you send volunteers to disaster zones?

Only experienced specialists, and only alongside local partners. Most of our response is led by people who already live in the affected area.

Where do you work?

We've responded in 18 countries across South Asia, East Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe, always through local partners.

Lend us your skills

We keep a roster of engineers, logisticians and health workers who support our partners remotely and, where it's safe, in the field.

  • Put your professional skills where they help most
  • Remote roles, and field roles where it's safe
  • Work next to local partners who know the area
